My issue of “The Christmas Cookie Club” goes to Eve. I hope she enjoys reading it just as much as I did.

 

Da zurzeit überall im Netz irgendwelche Weihnachtsaktionen laufen, dachte ich, machen wir hier wenigistens ein klitze-kleines Aktiönchen. Ich habe mir überlegt, dass ich mein Exemplar von “The Christmas Cookie Club” von Ann Pearlman verlose. Das ist sehr stimmungsvoll geschrieben und beinhaltet darüber hinaus auch noch rund ein Dutzend Rezepte für Weihnachtsplätzchen (zu jedem Kapitel eins).

In dem Buch geht es um zwölf Frauen, die sich jedes Jahr zu Beginn der Vorweihnachtszeit treffen und sich gegenseitig mit Weihnachtsplätzchen beschenken. Jede Frau bringt 13 Päckchen von einer Sorte Plätzchen mit, die sie selber gebacken hat und erzählt bei der Übergabe an die Freundinnen, was sie in dem Jahr bewegt hat und warum sie gerade diese Plätzchensorte gewählt hat. Das hört sich erstmal gar nicht soooo spannend an, ist aber wirklich toll erzählt und ging mir teilweise richtig unter die Haut.

As there are Christmas events going on all over the web I thought we should have one here, too. So I figured we could have a lottery where the winner gets my issue of “The Christmas Cookie Club” by Ann Pearlman. It’s a book that gets you right into the Christmas spirit. It has the added bonus that it contains around a dozen Christmas cookie recipes. (There is one to each chapter.)

The novel is about twelve women who meet each year right after Thanksgiving for their special opening of the Christmas season. Each one brings thirteen nicely wrapped packages of a certain kind of Christmas cookies. When they give the cookies to each other they each talk about what moved them during the year gone by. This summary doesn’t sound half as interesting as the novel is in reality. It is really nicely told and many passages really got under my skin.

To win the book all you have to do is post a comment before Monday night. It doesn’t have to be a highly intelligent comment, just let me know you are interested in taking part in this event. And I really, really would like to encourage my “international readers” to come out of their hiding and join us on this! I will not use those adresses for anything apart from informing the lucky winner so they can send me their postal adress.

As my travel report about Ireland is not yet ready, here a post about our holiday pictures competition instead. While we were on vacation we played the card game “Cafe International” again for the first time in ages. It was a lot of fun so I figured it would be a great prize for the winner. So, what do you have to do to win this fun card game? Just send me your funniest or your corniest holiday snapshot before midnight on 7. August. I will then put all pictures up on this website (I will not put your names with them, of course) and then all users are asked to vote for a week which picture they like best.
